The Importance of a Building Designer/Architect

Updated: May 16, 2022

One of the things that we always tell clients is to ensure they engage a quality architect/building designer when building/renovating.

This might seem like an expensive initial cost however, by using a quality architect/building designer, you might actually save yourself thousands and thousands of dollars in the long run.

In the past, we ourselves have had plans drawn up and engaged someone whose quote came back the 'cheapest'. However, this ended up being a costly mistake as things needed to be changed during the build process.

We have definitely learnt over the years that you get what you pay for (as the old saying goes).

We have had a number of plans drawn up by Shay and Dave at @sdcbuildingdesign and we couldn't be happier! We get amazing plans every time t

hat are passed through council quickly. Another benefit is that we have been able to see our rooms in 3D and make any necessary changes before we begin the actual build process.

We just love the project they've been working on in Kiama and we can't wait to see this come to life 🙌

When looking for an architect/building designer, ensure you check the following :

✔️ Ask around. Word of mouth is always the best way to find out how a business truly operates.

✔️ Engage someone who knows the guidelines set out in your council area.

✔️ Ask whether your designer can offer renders/ walk through so you can see your space.

❌ Don't choose an architect/building designer solely on price alone.

❌ Don't engage someone who says 'you can just change this throughout your build'.

Remember, a good architect/building designer will save you time, money and your sanity in the long run!
